tonight. keep up the great work. we end this broadcast tonight not knowing where mitt romney stands on health care. that's the hitch. i'm ed shultz. the rachel maddow starts right now. >>> this is the logo of the china offshore oil corporation. it's kind of cool right? i like to call this cnooc. as you can tell, the logo is kind of a pick to graph e ex-planing what they do. it's supposed to be an oil derrick and the c is the platform that it's sitting on. the whole thing is in blue water because they are an offshore oil company. this chinese company is a huge company. it's almost entirely owned by the chinese government. in 2005, they tried to take over an oil company based in california. so big chinese, state-run company trying to take over a california company. this is the chinese government, a big business deal like that actually does have national security implications for us as a country. that's the kind of international business deal that's subject to review by something called the committee on foreign investments in the united states. a big committee that reviews this stuff.
's the policy, stupid. more evidence the romney campaign is in deep trouble, support sagging in poll after poll. the candidate continuing to commit gaffes. but today mitt romney put a brave face on all that and after bill clinton introduced him at an event, today he actually cracked a pretty funny joke. >> if there's one thing we've learned in this election season, by the way, it is that a few words from bill clinton can do a man a lot of good. all i got to do now is wait a couple days for that bounce to happen. >> yeah. hey, what about my clinton bounce? yeah, i don't think that's going to happen, governor. here's what president clinton said today about your tax plan. >> we know what governor romney says, which is that his proposal for dealing with the debt is first to make it bigger by adopting another round of tax cuts, but he says he can do that without raising taxes on the middle class. i'm not sure that's possible. but he wants to defer until after the election saying what the specifics are. i think that ought to be a little bit of a red flag. >> there are red flags all over governor romn
romney went on to describe what he called a prosperity plan. he said he would initiate it if elected as president. it is to help foster work and free enterprise in the middle east. a new polling data indicates the obama campaign is struggling to win the support of a key voting bloc. military veterans. one recent poll. take a look at this, shows governor romney with a double-digit lead among veterans in three states. in florida, mitt romney is up by 20 percentage points. another study, including third-party candidates finds the majority of veterans and military families in colorado favor governor romney. you can put that first screen up again, and we will discuss it with chris stirewalt. before we put you on screen, a 20-point advantage for romney in florida, 12 points in ohio and 12 points in virginia, all among military veterans. can you tell us, chris, what is going on? how is the voting bloc? >> i'm sure that many viewers like you put things back up now. the true picture is, florida, virginia, north carolina -- these are states with very substantial veteran and military population
americans. >> romney: he said the developments in the middle east are bumps in the road. , good morning everyone. mitt romney joins paul ryan on a bus tour through ohio as part of an effort to refocus his campaign message. ryan kicked off a three-day tour with an event in lima and they'll campaign together in central ohio. romney wraps it up tuesday with an event in cleveland. ohio is perhaps the most critical swing state with 18 electoral votes. romney losing ohio would mean he has no shot at the white house. that does follow suit with history. no republican candidate has ever become president without carrying ohio. recent polls show romney is down in the state by anywhere from 4 to 7 points against the president. so he's not doing great in ohio but he's faring well financially after a trip to los angeles over the weekend. romney brought in $6 million in just one night at a fund-raiser in beverly hills where about 1500 people paid up to $50,000 each to see the candidate speak. ann romney ran into a little trouble when her plane had to make an emergency landing this weekend. she is safe and soun
